🌿 Phage Therapy: An Old Solution for a New Challenge? 🌿Inspiring from cell theraphy, bacteriophage technology is interesting to target the "bad bacteria" such as C. acnes in acne pathology for instance. As antibiotic resistance grows, phage therapy is regaining attention. Originally developed in the early 20th century, phages are natural viruses that specifically target bacteria—without disturbing the skin’s microbiome. 🦠💡For cosmetic and dermo-cosmetic professionals, this could open doors for:* Safer, more precise treatments for bacterial skin issues 🧴🔬* Sustainability: Phages could complement or reduce the need for traditional treatment 🌱✨* Innovation: Imagine phage-infused skincare solutions for acne, dermatitis, and more 🚀However, we need more in vitro and clinical studies to fully realize this potential... What do you think? ?? Could phage therapy redefine cosmetic treatments??#Cosmetics #DermoCosmetics #PhageTherapy #SkinCareInnovation #Microbiome

💋🧪🚕 This past week in New York City, the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) hosted their annual meeting and technical showcase. Of everything that I learned at this 3-day event, the research and innovations centering on Sirtuins--a sort of enzyme or signaling protein--were by far the most fascinating.Dr Nadine Pernodet of The Estee Lauder Companiespresented on the topic. She described Sirtuins as 'longevity proteins' or 'epigenetic actors'. ELC has been researching epigenetics for over 15 years and has developed a ferment that activates select Sirtuins. (there are 7 in humans).Sirtuins have the potential to genuinelyreverse cell agingand their benefits are universal, that is to say they are not specific to any one epigenetic experience. There is no need for product personalization here; the same mechanism for skin cell age reversal works for everyone. It increases the lifespan and the health span of cells."Our results," says Dr Pernodet, "show that Sirtuins are beneficial for cellular integrity and function, which result in sustaining key elements to skin's youthful structure." And she shared research demonstrating that a "combination of SIRT1, SIRT3, SIRT6, and SIRT2 activators turns on a network of longevity proteins that activates skin cells' power to sustain their peek performance."Notably, in the exhibition space at this years SCC event,Mibelle Biochemistryhad a poster titled Boosting Endogenous NAD+ for Skin Longevity which included data showing that 2% of the ingredient maker's sunflower sprout extract "increases the longevity marker Sirtuin 1in skin explants after UV-A exposure."And I will mention as well that there is a skincare brand, serving me ads on Instagram right now, that has a supplement in its product line formulated with "100% cold water dispersed curcumin, [which] boasts four times the active benefits of generic turmeric and iswell documented to increase Sirtuins."READ more news & notes like this in my weekly newsletter Beauty Insights🔗💋💡find a link to subscribe in the comments#SCC77#beautyindustry Society of Cosmetic Chemists HQ

Americans are increasingly obsessed with #skincare products featuring scientific-sounding ingredients, with a focus on #clinical formulations. According to NielsenIQ data, the market for products containing ingredients like retinol, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid has grown significantly, surpassing the dynamic in "natural" and "organic". The trend, accelerated during the pandemic, has generated billions in sales but also raised concerns among dermatologists about potential skin irritation from using multiple products with concentrated ingredients. With consumers self educating and seeking out key active ingredients, is there a risk of a commodification of skincare? What will be more important to the consumer in the future- the ingredient or the brand? Thanks Jeannette Neumann and Bloomberg for including my thoughts: https://lnkd.in/eHqVpFWD

DO YOU WASH YOUR FACE IN THE AM?Skincare Tip: give your ever-important microbiome a break by washing in the am only a few days a week. Here's why:Double cleanse your face. So, essentially, you are going to bed with clean, moisturized skin.🔘 It gives your skin a chance to build up the protective barrier, especially if you use a retinol!🔘 It gives your ever-important microbiome a break. After all it is your skin's first line of defense.🔘 Use a toner in the morning to clean whatever is built up over the night, but use one like @lifelineskincare that has skincare benefits. Review by @laurenletter "I have been using @lifelineskincare for over a month now as my night and day skincare and I have seen a remarkable change in my skin! They use science to deliver results by working at the cellular level. Their stem cell skin care products include patented extracts from non-embryonic human stem cells—the same highly potent stem cells that are active early in life. These extracts contain peptides, amino acids, and enzymes that help to increase collagen and elastin." 💙 50% OFF code: “LAUREN” 💙 at lifelineskincare.com#LifelinePartner #lifelineskincare #AMSkincare #MorningCleanse #FreshFace #MorningRitual #SkincareRoutineAM #WakeUpGlowing #PMBeautyRoutine #MorningGlow #DoubleCleanse

🤔 Have you ever heard of Cedrol? This natural constituent, commonly found in the essential oils of conifer trees, especially those of Cupressus and Juniperus genera, is about to change your skincare game! 🍃Did you know that the key to maintaining youthful and vibrant skin lies within the intricate world of the extracellular matrix (ECM)?Our skin's support system, meticulously crafted by dermal fibroblasts, plays a pivotal role, and any disruptions in ECM production can lead to those pesky wrinkles we all dread! 😩🔍 Let's delve into the groundbreaking 2012 study* in Korea, where researchers explored the potential of Cedrol. This tricyclic sesquiterpene alcohol extracted from Pterocarpus indicus emerged as a key player in boosting ECM production in dermal fibroblasts.🧪 Cedrol not only enhances fibroblast growth in a dose-dependent manner but also elevates the production of type 1 collagen and elastin. These two components are the dynamic duo responsible for achieving supple, firm, and flawless skin!Importantly, it poses minimal risk in terms of skin irritancy, allergenicity, and toxicity. 🌿✨*Jin MH, Park SG, Hwang YL, Lee MH, Jeong NJ, Roh SS, Lee Y, Kim CD, Lee JH (2012).
