I enjoyed cooking once every few weeks, but once I satisfied that desire to whip up a meal, I didn’t want to start the process all over again the next evening. I often said, “I love dinner. 5280 Home|June/July 2018BRING HOME A LITTLE HANDMADE1 URBAN FLAX Vita Kacerovskis, Littleton A former graphic designer who has “made things all [her] life,” Vita Kacerovskis took inspiration from her Latvian upbringing when she launched Urban Flax, her home-textile business. “I wanted to make something that’s beautiful, practical, that comes from a natural source—and I grew up with lovely linens,” says Kacerovskis, who sews simple tablecloths, tea towels, napkins, and other everyday textiles and sells them through her Etsy shop. Working out of her home sewing studio in Littleton, Kacerovskis sources flax linen in natural, white, and gray hues—“a palette that goes with any interior,” she says—and fashions the fabric into useful shapes with simple details. “The texture is more important than the form,” she says. “You can make linen very smooth or leave it un-ironed for…2 min

On warm summer nights, they love to hang out with their neighbors. Sounds like a typical Colorado story—but it’s not. That development, the Beloved Community Village, opened in July 2017 as a pilot-phase solution to Denver’s housing crisis. 5280 Home|June/July 2018Lofty IdealsDenver’s Flour Mill Lofts building (built in 1906 and originally called the Pride of the Rockies flour mill) has all the authenticity and craftsmanship that homeowner Craig Troyer was craving. His vision for the renovation, says Jennie Bishop, a principal at Chicago-based Studio Gild (which collaborated with Denver’s Robb Studio to overhaul the space) was “industrial, old-school construction mixed with new technology—all the bells and whistles.” The bathroom redesign improved the flow: “At first, the space was kind of choppy and awkward,” Bishop says.
